CFH appreciates all volunteers that participate in this Great Economic Rescue of the People in Central America. The volunteer efforts have had a great impact in the lives of those who they are helping, but most often are themselves impacted in a marvelous way as they give of their time and resources to benefit the poor. Eagle Scout Project By Michael Vance Michael Vance of St. George, Utah collected 180 white shirts and 159 ties for CFH as part of his BSA Eagle Project, "White Shirt" in October 2009.  Michael, along with Scout Troop 0617, collected used white shirts and ties as well as monetary donations and suitcases from the Eagle Ridge, Boulders, and St. James subdivisions.  Michael washed, bleached and dried shirts and folded them.  He also collected over $700 dollars which he used to purchase 120 new white shirts through Deseret Industries.  The shirts and ties were then packed into nine donated suitcases and delivered to Cause for Hope with the help of Tony Allen.  Michael was excited to be able to help the future missionaries of Central America where his grandfather served a mission in the early 1950s.

HYGIENE KITS PROJECT ACTIVITY DAY Jill Oldroyd Activity Day Leader of Heatheridge 7th Ward On October 23, 2009, Activity Day girls from the Heatheridge 7th Ward in Orem, Utah, put together hygiene kits for female members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They were inspired to do this service as a result of hearing a report from BYU Soccer player, Dana Oldroyd. Sister Oldroyd, who had visited Nicaragua last spring with the Cause For Hope Foundation, expressed how wonderful and humble the Saints were in that area and how they could use anything the girls could donate to help them in their lives. The girls gathered together and assembled kits that contained around 25 items each--"everything a girl could want to keep clean and neat from head to toe." They then wrote kind letters with photos and addresses included. The Activity Day girls also decorated the kits with ribbon. It was a terrific experience for them to think that they were helping some women from another country that don't have as much to have some fun things to make them feel clean and pretty.

Ryan Willie was inspired to help Cause for Hope by his Young Men’s Leader, Gary maxwell. This young man, member of The Boy Scouts, developed a special Eagle project to help future missionaries in Central America. In December 2007, Ryan with 20 other boy scouts distributed flyers which explained his project and the donations they needed. After two weeks, they picked up all the contributions. He gathered 11 suitcases full of clothes, such as suits, shirts, ties and socks, and on February 12th of 2008 he flew down to Masaya, Nicaragua in company of his mother Melissa and the CFH Board members. “The idea was that he could deliver the items himself” said his mother, Melissa Willie, who had served a mission in Ecuador and learn to love the Latin people. Ryan was able to help several missionaries pick out a suit and white shirts but mostly he got to see how his project could help those young men in Masaya.

When Steven Welling was deciding on an Eagle Scout project, he learned of the great need for missionary clothing for young men in Central America. He worked hard to coordinate the gathering of many cases of clothing as well as cash donations. To complete his project, he traveled to Honduras and Nicaragua this past fall to deliver the items he had gathered: 43 suits, numerous white shirts and ties, and a check for $1250.00. We understand how he can feel that he is the one who bene.ted most. Thank you Steven for your great service.
