Managua Project Manager

In August 2006 Roberto Payan began his appointment as project manager in Managua, Nicaragua where he succeeds Nelson Altamirano.

Roberto is a graduate engineer and was teaching at the university before joining our foundation. He has served in a bishopric and is currently on the high council. His wife, Maria Del Carmen, works at INATEC (the National Institute of Technology) and is the stake Relief Society President. The Payans have four children: Roberto Carlos, Maria, Daniel, and Ruben. Managua Economic Condition

In Managua there are approximately 1,700,000 inhabitants. The LDS church has several stakes in Managua , however, we have elected to begin our programs in one stake only That stake has 6 wards and branches. Once we have solidified our programs in the Villa Flors stake we will then extend the programs to the other stakes in Managua .

The economic needs are great this area. Nicaragua as a country is still suffering from the 20 years civil war and the effects of communism. However, there are many opportunities in Managua and we see where much progress can be made.
