Managua Economic Condition
In Managua there are approximately 1,700,000 inhabitants. The LDS
church has several stakes in Managua , however, we have elected to
begin our programs in one stake only That stake has 6 wards and branches.
Once we have solidified our programs in the Villa Flors stake we will
then extend the programs to the other stakes in Managua .
The economic needs are great this area. Nicaragua as a country
is still suffering from the 20 years civil war and the effects of
communism. However, there are many opportunities in Managua and
we see where much progress can be made.
The CFH History in Managua
We opened our project in Managua in October of 2004 and Nelson Altamirano
was employed as the manager. Our programs were stated immediately
and are progressing well. As in all new areas it began slow but
is showing much progress.
In the area of Micro Credit and small business training, we currently
have 27 individuals in our village banks and when you consider the
families, we are improving the lives of between 100 to 150 people.
We have many more who are going through the small business training
classes. We are preparing to organized more village banks.
In the area of vocational loans we currently have 27 people going
through programs at technical schools preparing to join the work
force. In addition we have 45 people enrolled in our English classes.
We have assisted 35 young men and women go on missions for the
LDS church and there are many more who are preparing and talking
to our manager about their missions.
